Good evening all,
SSAA National Fly Shoot Championship update. This afternoon there has been discussion within the group planning the Nationals, in light of what has happened / is happening in SE QLD / QLD this week, and the speed at which boarders were restricted/ closed and “Hot Spot” status allocated. We will be pressing the “Pause” button for just a little bit. With plans to further assess and discuss the situation towards the end of April, early May. A week ago we were plaining to release the official program / Flyer for the Nationals in the next few days, with somewhat a confident feel that the Nationals may go ahead unaffected possibly by Covid restrictions. We will keep all in the loop, as we are aware that Holidays / Accommodation etc.. all need to be planned.

Hi All,
Certainly a testing time to plan anything....however hopefully the efficiency and success rate of the quick WA lockdown and reopen will give some confidence, Australia is certainly doing better than a lot of the world. I am very keen to support the nationals in Mackay if they go ahead....... I am not going to book flights, but plan to drive for the event and be there for all three days. Good Luck with your plans & I Hope to see you all there for the 2021 Fly Nationals !! Cheers Anthony |

Hi Shane,
Has there been any progress with the Nationals are they going to go ahead. Whilst i do appreciate this is a trying time with Covid it's only a short time to go till the Nationals are to be held. We all probably have to book leave make travel arrangements etc so as much pre notice would help everyone I am sure. Given Mackay is a long trip for most is will require some preparation on the part of inter state travellers. thanks Les
shooting well is more a mental control of your thoughts than just pulling the trigger........

Dear all,
The reason that Mackay has been so reluctant to start accepting nominations for the Nationals is the following policy from SSAA National: If a competitor from any state or territory is unable to attend a National Championship due to COVID 19 restrictions, (this may include the requirement to isolate on return to their home State). If the event is able to proceed, the event may not be considered a National Championship. In the above circumstance the event may be renamed Fly Shoot 2021 Championship • SSAA National Championship medals will not be awarded if the event is not considered a National Championship, perpetual trophies and Hall Of Fame points would also not be awarded. • Any local prizes and SSAA Merchandise certificates would still be able to be awarded. If, during the event, a border closes anywhere in Australia, this could trigger the above policy’s application. I have been in touch with the SSAA National Shooting Sports Manager about this matter. If the above policy may need to apply to the event, I will contact the National Shooting Sports Manager and work together with him to seek a determination as to the status of the event. There is the possibility that the closure of a border will not trigger the application of the policy, where it can be adequately demonstrated to SSAA National that competitors were not affected by the closure. I appreciate everybody’s patience in these uncertain times, Mackay will be opening nominations to the event shortly. The above policy will be on the nomination form and each competitor will need to sign the form acknowledging it. Evening all,
Thanks Dave for the post. As Dave has said there has been uncertainty around the "What if" Covid effects the event. What happens? Would people still be willing to attend even if the SSAA National Covid Policy has to be imposed on the event… But it is now time to move forward and deal with the issues "IF" they arise. SSAA Mackay is planning to have a Program and Nomination forms out by Early June at the very latest. You will find them hosted on the SSAA Mackay web site as soon as they are ready. SSAA Mackay with the help of SSAA Brisbane Fly Shooters are very much looking forward to hosting you all at the SSAA Brightly Shooting Complex in Mackay at the end of July. A special thanks to Vince V and the SSAA Brisbane Fly Shooters who have stepped up and offered to assist SSAA Mackay with the running of the 2021 National Fly Shoot. Their help will be needed and much appreciated. Thank you all for your patience, it is much appreciated. Look forward to seeing you all in July. Thanks Shane C / John Mc SSAA Mackay P.s For those who would like a practice run for the Nationals... the SSAA Qld Fly Championships are being held at the end of May in Mackay... good chance to get to know the Range...

Thanks for the updates Dave & Shane.
Open borders permitting, I'm planning a roadtrip to Mackay with a fellow VIC flyshooter. We'll still make the trip if it goes ahead but not designated a National event. We're looking forward to making the trip to the Mackay range. Regards Nick |
