A fly gun

Tony Souter
Kelbly

Saw this on the Kelblys site and was wondering your thoughts of this sort of gun's suitability for the Fly.

Description of this gun: "Grizzly II Action RB-RP in Blue w/Silver Flake Kelbly 1M stock, Krieger 6.5x55 GWI 1-8” Twist, Sanded Finish, Kelbly Trigger, March 10x-60x52mm Scope"

Maybe not this calibre, but does anyone have an opinion?

If I got one, I'd have it painted Mauve - to take some of the heat off Belly !!

Hi Tony,

A great selection of components, good stock.... as for the action I like the Stolle actions a lot, I am not sure exactly what the difference between the Grizzly and the Panda are.... but have a look at the Panda F class action.... its about the same price and has the 20moa rail integrated into the action.  Scopes are a personal and financial choice between NF & March, either will do the job very well. Calibre ..... can of worms here, but statistics are showing that the 6mm's based on the BR case are dominating at the moment....6BR, 6BRX, Dasher etc, but 6x47, 6.5x47 or indeed 6.5x55 are all reasonable choices.

Importing it complete from Kelbly's might be more hassle and cost than you think.... it might be worth talking to Pete VM or one of the other australian gun smiths about ordering the components through them and having them build it in Australia for you.

You are definitely on the right track with this type of rifle though regardless of what colour you paint it....

Cheers

Anthony

I've looked at importing and the idea doesn't faze me.
Spoken to people who have done it and they think it isn't that difficult.

I thought of importing the parts separately but then there 4 or 5 different import transactions, where an assembled gun is just the one.

Have been in touch with Kelblys and they export regularly to Australia.

Have also given them my specs to quote.  Similar to gun above but F-class action, 6BR, 28" barrel 1:8 twist, 6 groove. Kelbly trigger, rings, bases.

Total weight approx 15lb. Mauve colour.
