Thanks Vince & John
I've put you both down for HG & LG and if you can rustle up a rimfire I'll clip your tickets for that too. You're coming all this way so why not shoot the rimfire on Friday! Nick |
Hi All
After reading on another thread that the overall "winner" will come from the Light and Heavy combined, is this the case for the Nationals ?? I have been shooting the Fly since 2000 but don't travel outside of Canberra. I was considering travelling to Little River as it's the "Nationals" but if I have to shoot both classes to be in the running I won't be attending. I guess it's a good way of reducing the competition, going on last years Nationals only 21 competitors had a chance of winning. Matt Paroz |

Hi Matt
I understand where you’re coming from regarding the overall winner historically being taken as the highest score on the day regardless of class, HG or LG. However the 2017 is a 3 day event with 3 classes, rimfire, HG and LG so it’s not possible to declare the winner of one class the overall National champion. Listed below is the format and medals to be awarded for the 2017 Nationals. The Nationals at Little River is going to be a 3 day event with one class shot per day and the awards and classes are as listed in the current Fly rule book. If you choose to enter the Nationals with one class then you are in the running to be the winner for that class on that day. Of course if it’s a LG then you could also enter in HG as well and be in the running to win both classes and the C/F two gun award. At the end of each day, the winner and place getters for that day will be presented their awards. To be clear on the awards, medals are prepared by the National committee and sent to the hosting club for presentation. Looking at the awards there will be five National Champions as five gold medals are on offer for aggregate and class wins. While it isn’t listed in the current rule book and so not official, the overall National winner of the 3 day event could logically be considered the shooter who enters all 3 classes and gains the highest aggregate score for those classes, the 3 gun winner, a significant achievement. Of course this may not be the direction that Fly shooters want to take as per recent debate. In order to gain permission to host the 2017 Nationals at Eagle Park the Melbourne Benchrest Club had to assure the National Benchrest Chairman that the event will be run as per the current rule book, even down to providing a qualified surveyor’s certificate that the 500m and 200yd yard are within specs! Hopefully I’ve clarified that the 2017 Nationals are being run to the current rulebook format, like it or not. So until the rules are changed I hope you can reconsider attending the 2017 Nationals to have crack at gold. Friday April 28th 200 yard rimfire. Saturday April 29th 500 metre Heavy centrefire. Sunday April 30th 500 metre Light centrefire. Yes you can camp at the range. While we do not have a large club room like at Canberra, we can make room in our storage shed for camping. There are showers on site and the cafe will be open Friday thru to Sunday. Nick |
thanks mate

Hi Nick
A number of Sydney shooters are looking to make the trip down to Melbourne this year for the Nationals and I had a question or two related to securing rifles etc. I noted last year that the ACT requires rilfes to be secure to the vehicle. Q. Does VIC have any different rules regarding the transportation\storage of rifles in vehicles? Q. Any of rules which might affect those north of the boarder that we should be aware of? Let me know and I will pass on the details so our shooters are doing the right thing. Looking forward to the shoot. Dave Dundas |

Hi Dave
I'm pleased to hear Sydney shooters will be attending and look forward to receiving your nominations. In regard to transportation of firearms in Victoria this is a link to Victoria Police website section: Storage and safe keeping requirements for firearms, updated Nov 2016 http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=36210 Nick |

Hi Nick
How are your shooter numbers going for each of the three days? Are you still waiting on many shooters to register? Want to keep this thread near the top on the board so it gets seen. Thanks Dave Dundas |

As is my first visit to Little River, can a local tell me if the orientation of rifle to target is "level", "downhill" , like Batemans Bay, or "uphill", like Canberra? Just wondering what height rear bag I need.

Hey Rob,
It is up hill, very similar to Canberra (maybe a little more up hill but not much). Whatever bag/rest setup works in Canberra will be fine at Little River...... just allow a bit more for the wind :) Anthony |

Hi Nick,
Good roll up - I make that something like 42 individuals over the three days, 26 Rimfire, 31 Light Gun and 28 Heavy Gun. Should be a good event. Cheers Anthony |
Hi All,
Who's intending to camp at Eagle Park next weekend? Russ and I are currently planning to. Cheers. Dave |

Hi Dave
From what I've heard there could be 6 or more shooters camping at the range plus you and Rus. Extended forecast is looking promising, for Little River..... Nick |
