Re: FOR THE ATTENTION OF ALL FLY SHOOTERS

David Dundas
Thanks Les

On a positive note the SSAA Sydney branch are doing an article on young Keagan Mcgrann and his success at Batemans Bay this year. Great that the Sydney branch have done this article and I am sure it will bring alot of interest into the Fly.
Keagan won the Rimfire event outright (over 40 starters) and set two national records in doing so with best group and set a new high score so he certainly had a good day.
I will scan and post the article when released next month as its a great story as he was initially unable to attend to defend his Junior title from the year before but we got him to the shoot an the rest is history.

Regards

Dave

To find out exactly what has been proposed to the National Benchrest Committee regarding fly rule changes, the question was recently put to Dave Billinghurst National Benchrest Chairman.

With the exception of the open ended discussion of the introduction of Hall of Fame for the fly are there any other formal proposals regarding the Fly rules currently before the committee?

The answer from Dave was:  "I have no agenda items from Victoria Re rules changed for Fly Shooting."

Peter has his personal views on determining match winners and HOF which we are all aware of. That is all they are his personal views. He is also well aware of his role as delegate which is an obligation to represent the VIC shooters. It then follows his personal views take a back seat if they are in conflict with the majority vote of VIC fly/benchrest shooters.

Peter or VIC Fly shooters have NOT proposed any changed to the Fly rules.

Nick
Hey Nick
I have read your post again and determined that it is very  non committal and really in retrospect and based on my knowledge of how shit happens at committee I am not convinced at all of its integrity as a statement.
You have framed the question and response either intentionally or accidently  to be open ended and to answer nothing.
Your use of the terms "formal proposals regarding the Fly Rules" does not suggest that informal proposals are not being pushed behind closed doors and further your published response from Dave Billinghurst of "no agenda items" is also a  clever way of saying nothing.
If I was a smart fellow I would think that people are wording things in ways to pacify the populace whilst continuing on there merry way doing as they please.
Now I don't know you so I cant make any assessment of your moral standards nor Mr Billinghurst's for that matter so I will at this point say that I can only assume you both speak in good faith.
If Mr Billinghurst was actually interested in the Fly shoot I would expect him to make a concrete statement which clears the air (that's called LEADERSHIP in case anyone was unsure) I would also expect any other delegate such as yourself Nick to make clear , open and concrete statements  to again clear the air.
Sadly I don't see that happening.
Perhaps yourself, Mr Billinghurst or other attendanees from the meeting at Monarto could state factually what was raised and by whom again in the spirit of open and honest communication with your members.
Now as to Peter Van putting his personal opinions aside and representing the Vic shooters opinion which I am sure applies to yourself as well. Can you tell me what meetings or discussions have been had and what the result was ie what is the opinion of Vic Fly shooters please note I said Fly shooters not BR shooters or SSAA members but actual Fly shooters which is being represented.
I would be interested in what the NSW delegates are representing and who they have discussed anything with from the actual NSW Fly shooting fraternity as well

Hopefully your responses will clear a lot of this up.

It has been suggested that I have called Nick a liar and I would assure all that is not the case nor the intent. In fact I thought I had made a point of stating that I assumed all mentioned were speaking in good faith.
That said I do not step away from the above post and I reaffirm my meaning that if this matter is to be resolved it will require LEADERSHIP.
Now some plain speaking and clear statements will allow all to act in good faith.
If motions are to be put and change is desired those who want it should man up and publicly state what they want changed in plain English.
I or others may agree or may disagree but open discussion is what is required anything less is in my opinion a craven way to behave. If you believe in something stand up and say so don't hide in small rooms and make changes by stealth.
Perception is everything behave in an open manner and people will respect your opinion even though they may not agree with it.

Now again I will state the Fly is the Fly, its not Bench rest and does not want to be Bench rest.
You don't need two guns to win a match and you don't need to shoot 2 classes with a single gun either. Highest score is the overall winner regardless of LG or HG class. That's how it is meant to be. Fly has grown for over 20yrs based on this simple formula at a time when most disciplines have been going backwards.
If it aint broke don't fix it

Entitled to your opinion Paul, just like I am to mine. I didn't know that not attending shoots for a while meant you were not allowed to have an opinion .. I stand corrected apparently
Anthony don't concern yourself with this going further we are both grown ups I am sure we can sort our issues out without being childish on the forum

Can a light gun be used in the heavy gun event ?

I certainly don't have the budget to even consider heavy gun.

Do I tell the wife and kids there is no family holiday this year as I will need a 7mm rem ultra  magnum heavy gun  to be a part of the  sport.

I have only recently developed a interest in the fly matches attending daves 200m Silverdale events .
I have just put together a 6br to use in light gun and hopefully get to the Mudgee and baitmans bay events .

If these rules happen I might as well return to laying on my belly and shoot fclass.
I have been so refreshed with the unity in the 200m fly matches .
It's a group of shooters that simply shoot and enjoy the game .

If  split communities and BS politics is on the adjenda shooters might as well shoot fopen as it will be the same atmosphere but with a lot more clubs and range facilities.

I hope the powers that want to change the rules  consider that they are potentially making the sport less assessable to those who are not spending their superannuation funds , on large pay packets or the ones who have family's that can not neglect everything to participate in a sport that ironically makes mention to "having fun" in the rules ...

K.I.S.S and leave things alone

Hi John,

Firstly you can shoot a Light gun in either or both classes.

You will be able to enter Light gun in Batemans Bay in February and have the chance to win the shoot outright (with only one class), we will also have a 300m shoot on the sunday.

No politics, just good fun competition and I hope you can make it.

We will do dinner out somewhere like we always do, only this year I might impost a ban on all rule or political conversations at dinner :)  Families are of course invited.

Cheers

Thanks for clarifying Anthony on the class rules .

Ban on talking politics...,
Best bring a large cane  or some form of beating stick to enforce the rule .

Just stirring....   as long as family life dose not get in the way  I will be at the shoot at baitmans to see what it's all about .

Thanks

G'day John,
Tell you what I'm doing this weekend.
I'll leave Albury at about 8.15am Friday, travel to Little River, quickly set up a rough line of flags & shoot the 300 mossie.
Reset flags for the 500 on Sat.
Go to the little River Hotel and have one of the best meals you'll eat along with quite a few beers ( liquid intelligence ).
I'll have some great conversation with like minded people  about shooting, footy, shooting, cricket, shooting & more shooting.
Then,in the morning, with a sore head, go to one of the best rifle ranges in Australia and try and hit a fly or two in the forecast 45 klm westerlies.
It's going to be great.

Hope to meet you at the Bay next year.

regards,
Belly

This post was updated on .
This weekend I am travelling ten and a half hours to shoot the Fly and the Mozzie.
I am doing this because I love the event and catching up with friends and to HAVE FUN.
The ONLY RULE I wish to hear about this coming weekend is RULE 10.
Let's get over the crap and get back to having FUN - that is what Fly shooting is supposed to be about.
When there was only 10 rules we had fun, let's get back to the spirit of the FLY shoot.
cheers
Tim
