My first 500 fly shoot

Tony Souter
Am hoping to enter the fly shoot at Batemans Bay next month.

Have just started development on my 6BR.

How many loaded cartridges do I need for a single comp?

I'm guessing that, as in Rimfire 200 fly , there are 5 details with 5 record shots and 3 sighter shots in each ??  Plus sighters to get on paper.

Do you guys take everything loaded that you need, or do you load at the range?

Hi Tony,

You will need 50 rounds for each day.  I keep my brass in batches of 50 and fire them all, that way they all stay on the same number of firings etc..... 50 gives you up to 10 rounds for the warmer target and 8 for each of the subsequent 5 scoring targets.  If I end up with a round or two left over (by not using all three sighters), I fire them into the bank after my last target (just advise the RO that you are going to do that).

At 300, I usually have several left over, I keep them for sighters at the next club shoot and shoot them before I reload that batch of brass.

As it is your first shoot, I would advise you to have 2 batches of 50 made and ready to shoot, plus maybe a few sighters / practice rounds if you intend to shoot some on the Friday.  Very few people load at the range for long range.

Cheers

Anthony
