New Rifle

Hi Guys, Well I am officially back, just recieved my new LRP Solutions 6mm Dasher built my Matt Paroz and I couldn't be happier. The finish on this rifle is superb and I couldn't recommend Matt enough, an absolute pleasure to deal with from start to finish. As I have just had surgery the next phase will be a bit slow but I'm hoping to be ready by the ProCal fly. I have attached a couple of rough pics of my newest family member (though my wife looks at it completely different lol). Cheers Deane

A fantastic rifle you will be hard to beat with this rig can't wait to see it on the line. I think that it would be great for viewers to see the load development and ongoing pursuit of getting it sorted out.

I am presently recovering from surgery so for now I am at the mercy of daily visits from nurses. With the help of Rob Eager we have run the barrel in and fire formed 50 cases for the fly next weekend which I am still hoping to make. We are planning to do some quick load development, and the advice of people such as Matt Paroz, Les and the never ending help of Rob we should be able to sort out something to get me started pretty quick.

I will however keep posting here as to how we are going with it all and I will also post some pictures of groups etc.

I have attached some photos of a couple of targets shot while fire forming at 100 yards. We used the false shoulder and bullets jammed method. More info as we progress. Both groups were 5 shots and the last image shows Rob at the healm

Rob Eager done a bit of quick load development today just to check seating depth and a couple of powder charges. The photo shows the different loads and seating depth being 5thou and 10thou off the lands with the 105g Hybrids. All groups were 3 shots at 100 yards as we are limited with time before the weekend. Again I hope to make it and see you all there.

Looks like a nice bit of kit .... and very good to see you enjoying it.

Might be worth trying your load development a bit further out .... my preference is 300 Metres if conditions are fairly good .... or move in to 200 in average to windy conditions ..... gives you a really good idea of what works better and the vertical spread caused difference between powder weights (and velocity) becomes a lot more obvious.

My benchmark is 1" for 5 shots at 300 in good conditions ..... If it shoots that or better it is a good load....

Thanks for the comments. My preference would have been to test at 300-500m but due to surgery etc Rob has been doing what he can to get a load ready for the weekend. I agree with the distance based on bullet stability etc. unfortunately this is the best we could do under the circumstances.

There is another possibility too mate, don't forget the BAT is on Saturday night at 300m so bring some extra loads in the good category and fire them for a real test at 300 just a thought you are there so you may as well have a little extra load development time whilst you are at it.

I have been restricted to 100 yards also and i totally agree with Anthony a load at 100 with the heavier bullets are not quite stabalised till at least 200 to 300 mark and 300 is the bench mark. Not withstanding this lots of guys shoot just as good at any range. Sometimes you can just jag it.

The rig is mighty impressive the black mamba.

Thanks to Rob Eager also for helping Dean out some time ago i thought Dean was done with the fly but thanks to persistance and help he has keep the interest in Dean now he is back chomping at the bit to swat the fly. This type of encouragement is was makes fly shooting so enjoyable.....

Make that 5, lol. Mate I couldn't be happier and that's thanks to Matt Paroz, Rob Eager and yourself. I had a ball on Saturday. I finally got to chat to ALOT of guys like Belly, Pete Varley etc who I hadn't spoken to before, I'm feeling right at home again. Thanks to everyone who competed and made the day what it was, and to those who worked there ass off thanks for a super smooth day. Finally Congrats Les on giving us all a lesson on who to shoot in difficult switching winds and bad mirage. Truly an amazing result.

An Update.....

Ok guys and gals, Rob Eager and myself headed up to Canberra today in the hope of doing some load development. The plan was to test the 108g Bergers Belly so kindly gave me,unfortunatly the weather wasnt the best with lots of mirage and switching winds but hey its Canberra.

We shot 5x3 shot groups with varying powder charges and had the 108's jammed 010". I will atach some photos below, and distance was 300m. This is definately a work in progress as i need to go back and shoot some more groups with the best load which was 32.3g 2208 jammed 010".

The vertical dispertion of the group @300m was 0.182" which iwas very happy with. the horizontal was a by product of not owning wind flags as yet which will be my next investment.

i look forward to your feedback gys as i appreciate any help oropinions you can offer.

hi mate when you have done your load development have you batched, weighed, meplat trimmed and pointed your bullets as this all has a bearing on the final result. But the flattest group by vertical dispursion is the best group and then commence playing with neck tensions and seating depths a little more.

I am sure you write everything down in a record book/ ballistic bible and this will be your reference point.

Some very interesting groups in most cases there is a high pressure accuracy nodes and a low pressure ones i shoot the lower node because the window of variance with temperature is a lot more forgiving. I have seen shooters in the lead in the morning when it is cooler and not in the top ten by 1.00pm of the temp comes up.

At this stage I have not done anything in th way of serious case/bullet prep. I (Rob) have done the basics in case prep i.e primer pockets and neck turning (which I have to do as I have a .268 neck). Atthispoint I ha edible no weight sorting etc.

The pills were taken straight out of the box and loaded and no major sorting again at this stage. As I am still building my reloading room as I have just finished building our new home, all reloading is done at Robs house.

I will be much better prepared for the next season as work commitments and health issues have hamstringed me so far. I will be planning an assault on as many SOTY matches as I can next year.

I appreciate the feedback guys as it helps me pick up on the things I havnt considered in the way of match prep and reloaded/development. In the scheme of things I'm still very green at Benchrest and shooting in general. All said and done I'm loving it, and really enjoy the friendships in building in the community. Best bunch of guys I have come across in the shooting community by far.

Hi All

Ok so i went to verify my load for Batemans Bay Fly at the end of month yesterday. I shot at the Goulburn range at approx 570 yards, I turned up at 9am but waited till 1130am for the fog to lift so I could see the target lol, that's Goulburn for ya. As you can imagine at that time when it did lift up came the wind and mirage (surprise suprise).

So I started with my usual load of 32.6g of 2208 15thou jump and wound up with a 1.9" 5 shot group. I was happy with this but being curious I thought I would try an old load I dabbled with if 32.3g of 2208 same jump. I shot fast as I did with the previous group and got a 1.4" group which u was super happy with.

So I waited an hour and thought I would shoot another 5 shot group to verify the load and I was astounded which the lack of vertical. Though the group is 4.5"s wide the vertical was a freckle I've an inch, for 4 of the 5 shots the vertical was 0.289".

I have attached the groups below. Look out Batemans Bay I'm coming at ya 😀
