I was just reading Belly's article on Stuart Elliott and it got me thinking. I was always aware that Big Jim McKinley was was one of the founding members, but I remember Jim the best on Thursdays at the Majura Range.
Being relatively new to shooting I didn't get to know Jim as well as I would have liked to, but I loved hearing Jim's stories, and those who knew him know he had lots. Rob Eager used to go over nearly every Thursday if for nothing else than a yarn. On a few occasions I went along with Rob to do a bit of load testing etc, and spent most of the day laughing along to Jim's stories.
Looking back I never realised I never said thankyou, for giving us the discipline we all love, that brings us all together for these great events. I know I personally miss Jim's presence at the shoots, but it's great to see the big orange beast on the firing line. Blowing our hair back.
Thankyou to all that were involved in creating Fly shooting, but also to those who work so hard to keep the sport growing year after year.
I for one think my life would be a lot duller without the fly, without the friendships and without that buzz you get every time you sit on the firing line waiting for commence fire order to be given.
Cheers
Just doing my part to reduce the fly population!!!!
