SOTY qualification

I feel that some discussion is needed to review the SOTY qualification. At present there are a great number of shooters travelling to as many shoots as possible i feel this should  now be considered when deciding how the shooter of the year is to be award in 2017 and beyond.

Currently the process is, you can carry your two best shoots from one range and one from two other locations totaling 4 shoots.  This was set up because the amount of shooters qualifying was not very high. However the sport now has grown dramatically and it should now be an award that is difficult to achieve but does recognize those shooters who travel to multiple shoots.

Currently the circuit is 2 x Batemans Bay, 2x Wagga , 2x ACt, 2x Little River, 1x Qld total of 9 shoots. Given this amount of registered matches it would recognize the most consistent competitor if it was held over 5 shoots regardless of location and only the best placing from each range to count.

Under the current criteria folks travelling from QLD or WA don't have the advantage of two home ranges to count and must travel for every event.

Your thoughts.

Hey Les,

I have been and still am otherwise engaged with some family things, hence being absent from the forum, but I noticed this post and thought I would chime in.

I am all for discussion amongst the shooters on SOTY, but I disagree with the idea of 5 shoots and only one from each range counting.  Way to difficult for the majority to achieve.  I think that there would be less than a  handful of shooters that currently meet that criteria. you would need to shoot all 5 ranges currently offered....even if SA & WA come on board next year, I think it is way too difficult to achieve, it also makes any range that you can only get to once an absolute must..... get sick or have an equipment failure and SOTY is gone for you that year.....

I go along with 5 shoots if you like, but they should be from any range....that still means at least three ranges to have a chance.  I think we want more people to have a chance.... not less.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

Cheers

Anthony

yeh good point 5 shoots would certainly be a good idea it would encourage shooters to travel and is a compromise. I just think that the majority of the shooters should have the maximum advantage to qualify and lots of shooters are travelling now so a review of the process is a good thing.

cheers to all Les
