Some people on this forum will well remember Wally Siebert. Many others may have maybe heard the name. I just received news this morning that Wally passed away.
His name is synonymous with target scopes particularly for benchrest shooting doing repairs and modifications on them for many years. There was a time when Benchrest equipment lists the world over were full of Lyman/Siebert or Leupold/Sierbert conversion scopes. He also was connected at a time during research with Leupold and later with Weaver.
Wally and his wife Ruth lived just outside Seattle in the USA but they once lived in Australia. Then during the 1980's and 90's they owned a house in Melbourne and came out to live there ever summer to escape the north western USA winter. Therefore they traveled to every benchrest match they could in Australia and during the process did many scopes mods and repairs.
20 years ago Wally suffered his first heart attack and they decided to stay in the USA. He continued doing scope repairs and mods till recently.
Annie and myself were fortunate enough to catch up with them at their home in Seattle during a visit in 2010. He certainly had been battling poor health lately. His contribution to the target shooting sports is not forgotten.
He will be sadly missed.
