With regard to rear bag spacers, goes the substantially flat allow for adding say the grip tape used on skateboards to stop the bags sliding around?
Would there also be room for an experimental class ( a run what ya brung) allowing for anything, eg rail guns, one piece rests? For C/F and R/F |

Hi Steve,
My interpretation of that rule would be that grip tape would be fine as long as it was not attached (ie stuck) to the bench. If attached to the bags or spacers it would be part of the construciton of them and comply with the rules. With respect to an experimental class, there is no room in the rules and not likley to ever be as these are specifically excluded, but at the discretion of the organisers, if there is space available at a fly shoot you could shoot whatever you like (ie run what ya brung) as long as you realised that your targets would not be part of the official results for the event. Hi Anthony the idea of letting people shoot what ever they bring along to a shoot
is a great way to let people participate in a fly shoot - as long as they know that they can't win the shoot are be included in the score ranking on the day you never know -- the fly BUG might bite them -- and it might just be enough for them to get a rifle that would be within the rules the idea of Les's loan rifles could be a way for them to compete in a regular shoot there are lots of great ideas appearing on this forum keep up the good work john mc quire
Every Shot inside the Eight Ring would be GREAT

i would like to keep this thread going fellow fly shooters don't forget we need to get the interim rules done by the end of Feb so they can be put up.
If there are others out there who would like to contribute then please put your ideas up cheers Les

Anthony it may now be time to put the interim rule book together if you have the time. It seems that most have put their points of view up.
I am sure once the rule book comes out and people get the chance to read it then there will be more post's and hopefully we have a wide voice of where the rules should be..... cheers Les

Hi Guys,
My two bob's worth would be to change the rear rest rules to allow windage and elevation, but to still specifically exclude front and rear rests joined, and rail guns. This brings it more into line with the IBS rules, and allows some HG competitors in without them having to modify their rifles and spend more money on another rear rest, and a windage adjustable front rest. It's fine to say that the way it is now saves the newbie from having to spend a heap of money, but it cuts the other way too if your gun is set up for rear adjustable. Jeff Harrison |
Gentlemen,
After reading the interim rules more carefully, I have some questions/concerns here: In section 3.2 Equipment: 3.2.9 Entry of LG in HG class maybe done providing this gun is NOT previously entered in LG. If a competitor has two light guns he/she may enter one rifle in light gun and the other in heavy gun. Etc....... My question is, what is the reason(s)...or why??? While I can see why in both categories competitors may only enter one rifle per class and the rifle must comply with the class entered (in item 3.2.8), I can not quite understand with item 3.2.9.... My (switch barrel-switch caliber) rifle is designed from the beginning so that I can use it either for point blank 100/200/300 match (in PPC LV / HV mode), the Fly, and 1.000 yds or F-class belly benchrest in .284win LG mode. --- I can't imagine a light gun has advantage to a heavy gun, assuming weight concern, etc.... (Mine is a light gun, certainly under 17 lbs, but I can make it 25 lbs or so - by adding weights etc to the stock & if I have to!?). --- Assuming that a shooter can shoot both LG and HG in one day match(?), I can't imagine a shooter has advantage or so after he entered/shot in LG then shoot in HG (with same gun, or different gun) as condition etc always change..... --- I can't also imagine to build another rifle for the time being.... --- I also fully understand that my gun's concept/configuration is not ideal, I can't just justify to spend more $$$$ to build several guns at this moment... Just a food for thought... ------------- In section 2.1 Competitor's Eligibility Can a foreign shooter like me shoot in the Nationals? Do I need to register the SSAA membership? --- If so, how? ------------ Thanks & Best Wishes, seb. |

Hi Seb,
See my reply to your other post....Yes you can enter the same gun in both classes. the 3.2.9 is not in the rules..... it was only a suggestion for discussion. Cheers Anthony |

I have made up a new draft of the suggested changes to the rules and will post them now in a new thread so that your comments to these are clear and seperated from the earlier discussions.
I have tried reflect the intention of the comments made in this thread. Please review and post you comments in the new thread. Cheers Anthony |
