Can anyone tell me the course of fire for the day as far as light and heavy gun are shot? Can you shoot both classes with the one rifle, providing the rifle is under 17lb?

yes mate you sure can shoot both classes you just get put into different details, there are guys who do that. The course of fire will be 5 targets plus a Warmer on both classes. Some guys enter two classes with the one rifle and then use the class they are going worst in to support their other class. It is within the rules. i will try and save some heavy gun sighters for you to have try during the warm up if you like.

Do you guys only need cleaning gear do you have everything else sorted, rest sand bags etc as you are flying to keep the weight down there are guys including myself who can lend you gear for the day.

Anyway keen to see you WA guys at the shoot.

That's great Les thanks for that, we will be nominating for light and heavy then..

Thanks for the generous offer with the gear, we have paid a small excess baggage charge to bring our own rests and bags etc, we have also managed to fit in all cleaning gear accept for the carbon and copper remover liquid which we cant fly with. Be great if someone could bring some spare, as said before we are happy to pay as five of us will be using it.

Be great if you could save some sighters cheers.

We have five definites heading over and one more possible, were counting the days down..

One other item that is difficult to get across and we wont be bringing is flags and flag poles, just going on some of the pictures I've seen of the Canberra Nat's there seems to be a fair few flags set up across the range. Do we try and get on, or next to a bench with flags already set up? What do the guys that don't or cant bring flags usually do?

Mate there will be flags all over the range so you will be near guys who have them. The nationals draws a lot of shooters who are set up, i think Dave Groves will have lots of nominations spread across the range so dont stress about it. With so many top line shooters there is always plenty of flags to read off. I will have cleaning gear for you guys i think others will pitch in too.

Hi All,
Just thought I would give people an update on the numbers for the shoot so far.

Currently we have -

65 individual shooters using 92 spots on Saturday and
42 individual shooters for Rimfire on Sunday (only one spot per entry)

If you haven't had a response from me via e-mail to an attempt to register, please call or text my mobile so we can resolve the issue (before 9pm EDST please or be prepared for a terse reply).

We may have to look at running an additional detail which will make it a big day, or alternatively we will see how many extra target frames and benches we can push into service to allow over 100 competitors in 4 details. We have previously run 23 benches with relative ease.

Looking forward to this shoot, it will be the last Nationals in Canberra for a few years (rotation of the Nationals starts next year with Victoria) and I think the next one will be in 2020 which will be the 30th anniversary of the first Federal Cup.

Cheers.

Dave Groves.

Hi Dave,

That is fantastic numbers, particularly for Saturday.  I am really looking forward to the weekend, it should be a great event and I hope some of the competitive rimfire shooters from Sydney get there to give the sunday shoot a shake as well.....

I am almost tempted to text you this late just for the "Terse" reply... but I am scared of Jo :)...

Could you Please add Jemima Starr to shoot Light gun with Cameron on Saturday.

Cheers

Anthony

This is all a part of the grand plan😜 .
If she does well I can then get "her" very own rifle.
Aka a heavy gun entry 😝.

Well that's my excuse and I will be sticking to it.

Great numbers Dave

We have 6 shooters from Sydney making the trip aleady for the Rimfire on Sunday and I am reving up the fence sitters, would be good to get 10 down there from Sydney. Being the Nationals it might scare a few off but I am hoping we get some new shooters as well as the regulars.
Really looking forward to it.

See you on the firing line,

Dave Dundas

Hi David,

Great to hear that a crowd are coming down from Sydney for the Rimfire !!

It will add a good Junior Component to the shoot as well I am sure !!

Cheers

Anthony

PS I reckon a large group of us will be doing dinner at the Eagle Hawk Pub on Saturday night if you want to come along.

Cheers

Regarding the 200 yard fly nationals,.. My bench partner for the weekend, Grant Groves, has managed to scab up an old Uncle's pea rifle from  the back of a wood shed somewhere  with which we will attempt to give this event a bit of a shake.

Problem is I know absolutely nothing about rimfire shooting….so…..I need help with ammo!!

   Any suggestions guys?

I'm guessing a box of Winchester Super X's  won't get the job done  but there is a lot to choose from!
   Please…where do I start?

Hi Mate,

There are lots of opinions, and really in my opinion there are two main choices.

1) RWS 100 ..... it just works for 200

2) Buy several different types of premium  standard velocity ammo (Eley Match, RWS R50, Tennex, Midas Plus etc) try them all and work out which one your rifle likes best (test at 100 M in fairly still conditions with flags).....

Option 2 will give the best results in ideal conditions.....but when you turn up at canberra and it is blowing, you will ditch the lot and end up with the RWS R100....  good reliable ammo that is supersonic beats extremely good ammo that is slower in the wind ....

Cheers

Anthony
