Sorry about the late posting, been busy with work & other shooting.
Round 2 or the second attempt at a Fly match at club level. Local Fly patchs for hits. Fly shoot info for the weekend attached 2016MudgeeFlyShoot-2-Oct.pdf Local Factory Class rules MudgeeFlyFactoryHunterRules-Ver3.pdf I need to know some idea of numbers by the 11th October, please. |
Anyone interested, anyone at all?
It is a bit of a 'putdown' to not even receive a single apology for the event so far. Got 90 looks & not a single comment. Still, got 12 days to go for food nominations. I have recently found out why a few who used to to frequent this forum will not be attending. I deliberately scheduled the 2nd round to avoid all other Fly shoots Nationally at the time when I booked the range. Windamere Regional Shooting Complex is an unknown on the benchrest rounds, if it is to be utilised as a benchrest facility in the future, those with the experience will need to attend and advise what is required. As opposed to what is desired. I await any comments. |
Have you thought of running a centrefire custom class as well, this would probably attract more competitors from the fly and benchrest fraternities. I would be inclined to attend for a custom class shoot.
Just a thought. cheers Tim |

Hi Andy the Supershoot for short range is on at Coffs Harbour at this time so my appologies i can't make this one. I have passed onto Dave Billinghurst our conversations about short range and i am going to canvas it with him in person at Coff's. As for the few that used to frequent the forum won't be attending i am un aware of any issue with anyone using this forum as it is for all Benchrest shooters to post reasonable dialogue and be pro active in the sport. If folks feel they can't express themselves without accusing people then this forum is not for them.
I was the person who put Mudgee up as a possible venue at the last NSW state Benchrest meeting and i am also very pleased that you said in principle that the club would look at it. From a central point of view i think Mudgee is much more central in NSW than Coffs Harbour but it takes time to get things organised. I would also like to come to the range and meet with you and the Windamere committee and work out a strategy and hopefully i can get Dave Billinghurst to come along and provide advice but until i sit down with him and go through it i can't give an exact date. Hopefully this assists. Cheers Les

Thanks Tim.
This is the first positive reply I have received from a potential attendee on this forum regarding the fly shoots at WRSC. You are the first. I have always intended to get 'the fly' in some form running at WRSC, since 1999/2000. Other comps & dicsiplines at State and National level have interviened or otherwise occupied my money and time since then. As I am now older & more of a pear shape I could be possibly close to being allowed to shoot BR stuff. I have attempted to start the centrefire 300m fly shoots with a 'distinctive' factory hunter style of rifle. Having looked at the Wagga & B'Bay rules, observing this forum for a few years before I joined and while RO for the local centrefire shoots and as a hunter (before I got involved in 'range shootin'), have come to the conclusion that a real hunter rifle does have a magazine which gets used, we should encourage those rifles actually used in the field at our local fly shoots at 300m. I do have a number of "Custom built" rifles but none are suitable for the current BR version of Fly. I do a fair bit of actual hunting & if the magazine doesn't work you are stuffed on the day or night of the hunt. If those with "anything other" than wot is specified" want to attend - please feel free to rock up & advise me as to what else is needed and also "what else is desired". I will work on the logistics & 'present it to the committee'. I do have a BP Muzzleloader State Titles to atttend at the end of October and the following week the Nationals of Combinded Services Discipline in November. Having just finished the State Titles of CSD & BGR, I am still cleaning both guns & brass & preparing for the Nationals at WRSC. |

Custom Class at 300m is very hotly contested and is a fun shoot to have, it doesn't have any rules and is not limited by scope or weight. Most of the regular fly shooters can and do shoot both classes when they are on. So if there was a 300m Custon class and 300m factory class i would enter both and so would a number of other shooters. Those that are very keen on 500m fly use the 300m custom class as practice/ load development and time just to enjoy before the main event.
Cheers Les

Andy i would also be keen if i was able to shoot my "custom rifle" .
I personally think the 300mtr shoots where there is a custom class is a draw card & is very competitive. I could even drag the boat along & hit Windamere dam up. Cheers Ken. |
Ok, I get the message, Custom Class is on for the shoot, including the option of gaining a Mudgee Fly patch.
Along with the local Factory & 200yard Rimfire. Depending on attendance - we may end up with some 'centrefire' on the Saturday arvo. The last attempt resulted with my Savage .223 & an Omark in .308 shootin' for the fun, need 4 to have a comp. I still need to know numbers by the Tuesday for snags, bread, sauce, onions, etc. PLEASE! I would like to run the shoot format correctly, as I need the practice and need to sort out the most efficent method of range calls/timing/etc. but if we have no rimfire attendance, obviously we move to the centrefire. I will need to / should post - here & elsewhere any change in the format if known earlier than Thursday. (even though the 'flyer' states organiser can change... etc. with out notice.) I had to start somewhere with a "Fly shoot" - other than just club stuff. Just so you are all informed: I would rather this "be out there" than have 'problems' on the day. The WRSC 'no handling of firearms on the shooting line' when the range is closed (to shooting) will apply. This is a WRSC rule & as such - it over-rides any SSAA supposed allowances / rulebook /considerations as to setting up wind flags with rifles & bolts out stuff. WRSC holds the 'range approval' for the complex. There will be no argument entered into on the day at the range. If you want to argue, you know the gate you came in from............... Best bet, other than a spotting scope, is if want to use yer gun to set out flags is to remove the barrel & assuming the scope is on the action it is no longer a "rifle/gun", this is the best we are going to get, even for a Nats event, if it happens. Please do not ask any further, it will only pissoff the RO. I intend to be at the range from about 1 to 2pm on the Friday, depends on stuff at home, traffic, bluddy coppers highway patrol (the mates there are not always on duty), out of state holiday stuff / tourists on the road, etc. Then turn on water, fire up the gas showers, clean toilets, sort out target frames, etc. BYOG. |

Ros and I are coming over early Saturday morning hopefully early enough to put out flags. I 'll nominate for rimfire and custom class plus factory if there is room/enough details. Plus I am a left hander.
Accommodation appears very scarce this coming weekend in Mudgee - a big fishing tournament at Windamere Dam plus the usual weekend winery buffs. We managed to get a room in Kandos. See you Saturday Tim |

Ill be there,( roads permitting) shooting rimfire and custom 300 .

anybody else want to come, we cant expect to get new ranges If we don't support them,s I know it's short notice and it's only a club shoot but that's how the fly shoot spread, there used to be 500metre shoots at Tamworth and back then, we even got shoots started at Guyra, then we also had 300m shoots at Leeton, and they were great shoots to attend, sadly Tamworth, Guyra and Leeton don't hold Fly shoots anymore . Let's support as many fly shoots as we can.
Tim |
Lads,
I would have loved to come but sadly I am working, good luck and have fun Cheers, Deane
Just doing my part to reduce the fly population!!!!

Good to see the attendance list growing. This is going to be an initial experimental shoot so I hope you will all put up with any delays and offer suggestions once you have seen the facility.
I will be doing snag sandos for the lunch on both Saturday & Sunday & will have some supplies of 'fizzy drinks'. You need to be self sufficent for any other meals & drinks. I will have milk in the esky, coffee, sugar & tea bags are free, mugs in the cupboard (if we dirty it we wash it up). Will the partners be shooting ? I will have enough food for them for the lunchs. So far there are four (from the 500Forum) Les, Tim, Glenn & me. I will be checking the other places today for possible attendees. |
Count me in for the Custom class 300 mtr on the sunday.
Cheers Ken. |

Dave Goodridge may be coming for the Sunday shoot, hopefully Wendy,s medical goes well on friday and Dave can come along
Dave hasn't been to the fly shoots for awhile now, and his presence has been sorely missed. Dave has been the driving force behind the Southern Cross 1000yd benchrest championships at Narromine for the last 6 or 7 years. Fingers crossed that Dave can attend on Sunday, be great to shoot with him again |
